IN THE STEPS OF LEONARDO DA VINCI

THE 500th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RENAISSANCE

A Private Loire Valley Tour By RiverLoire

May 2nd, 1519 : Leonardo da Vinci died in his room of the Clos Lucé in Amboise, thus disappeared one of the greatest artists, humanists and thinkers of the history of humanity. More than any other city, the name of Amboise is today related to the life and work of the Tuscan master…

A RiverLoire guide will come and pick you up at Villaconcorde to guide you through the town of Amboise, Leonardo da Vinci’s heartland and cradle of the Renaissance. This tour will be a true discovery and great approach of the Loire Valley Renaissance culture and history.

We will first guide you through the charming town for an exploration of the pedestrian streets. Thanks to your guide’s intimate knowledge of the city, you will discover vivid examples of how the Amboisians, from the King to the simple citizen, used to live in the Renaissance time. Your guide will show you around and tell you all the stories that make the place so special.

You will visit with your guide the Royal Castle of Amboise. Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, this truly royal castle introduced Italian style and taste into the Loire Valley. Don’t forget the castle’s chapel of Saint Hubert where Leonardo da Vinci’s remains were reburied in the 19th century.

Lunch will be served in the famous patisserie of Amboise.

Finally, your guide will walk with you for the visit of the Clos Lucé, the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci, a 10 minutes’ walk from the castle of Amboise. Accompanied by your guide, you will visit the exceptional international exhibition celebrating the 500thanniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death. You will have the opportunity to see the tapestry of “La Cena”, an exceptional work of artnever exhibited outside of the museums of Vatican (running from beginning of June to beginning of September).

At the end of the day tour, we will head back to VillaConcorde.
